DJI Zenmuse H3-3D and the newly announced H4-3D, what’s the difference?

The Zenmuse H3-3D… why upgrade?

At last weeks Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2015) DJI announced the new Zenmuse H4-3D gimbal.

But so far, there haven’t been any significant differences identified between it and the previous H3-3D version…  At $399, why upgrade if there are plenty of users reporting that the H3-3D works just fine with the GoPro Hero4 (with a few relatively minor modifications)?
The minor modifications being some users have affixed small coins to aid in the gimbal balancing the heavier GoPro Hero4, and also grinding away some material from where the camera sits so as to not put pressure on and push the wifi button of the Hero4.

The only official information published so far is a PDF on the DJI website with little info, which does not highlight any major differences from the H3-3D.

One dealer (Kerry Garrison of Multicopter Warehouse) reported on the “DJI Phantom Owners Group – USA” Facebook group page:

It’s balanced for the Hero 4 and has an indent for the wifi button“.

With the information out there as of now about the H4-3D, upgrading from the H3 doesn’t seem to be necessary…if you are okay with a few DIY mods.
Unless you have another $400 to spend go for it!

(Drone Garage will post follow up articles as new information about the H4-3D as it is released.)
